Finding Strength Together: AWCU’s Support Group for Wheelchair Users

Living with a disability can be isolating, but it doesn’t have to be. That’s why the Association of Wheelchair Users (AWCU) of Namibia continues to host regular support group meetings at the Disability Resource Centre in Okuryangava, Windhoek. These gatherings are more than just social; they’re a lifeline of shared experience, encouragement, and practical wisdom. Saturday, once a month, business wheelchair users from across Windhoek come together to connect, reflect, and recharge. Whether you’re navigating work stress, health challenges, or simply looking for a space where you’re understood, this group offers a warm welcome.

Why It Matters

Support groups like this remind us that we’re not alone. They create space for honest conversations about mobility, independence, relationships, and the everyday realities of living with a disability. They’re also a great way to meet like-minded people, exchange tips, and build friendships that go beyond the meeting room. And let’s be honest: sometimes we all need a break. As the flyer says, “You can afford to take some time off from your busy work!” These meetings are a gentle nudge to pause, breathe, and reconnect with community.
